about

Winds Of War…is an Anti-War, Anti-Imperialism album.
The ancient sounds of Islamic culture are being crushed and annihilated by modern machines and electronic devices of the Western world. Like a soundtrack to a gruesome movie being played out for real on the world’s stage…Winds Of War demonstrates a unique vision of a world in turmoil. It is an attempt to create a musical interpretation of our current ill-advised cultural battle against the “Evil Ones”. Digital Field recordings from ancient Arabic deserts and 1,000-year-old villages…viciously processed and mangled forever by contemporary analog keyboards and other recording studio devices. Existing at the edge of Art and Avant Garde…this is an excellent example of Music Concrete, truly pushing the envelope of Modern music.
No instruments are played on this CD…just manipulated and altered found-sounds, treated DAT (Digital Audio Tape) recordings made in rural and urban locations over-seas, creating surreal environmental landscapes. Technically speaking, these DAT tapes were recorded in Muslim controlled North Africa by Djam Karet’s Gayle Ellett, then fed into the inputs of an American analog synth that is capable of processing external sounds by replacing it's internal oscillators, with signals from the DAT. The end result is presented here on this album.
Amazingly, during the first week of February 2002, all 7 of the tracks from this CD were in the “Top 50 Most Downloaded Songs” on MP3.com’s Progressive Music Chart. So apparently there is some real interest in this type of unusual music. Check it out for yourself!
